A Church with a Heart for our Community

December 17th Thursday

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! Another strange weather day in the Kingdom…so we will make the most of it and move around the territory with good road conditions. Well, as the song goes…”Though the days are hastening on…” and I trust that you are accomplishing much. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to’show-up’ in unexpected places, at unexpected times, and in unexpected people. God delights in surprising those He loves.

Recently, the worship leader at a Christmas music time told us, or reminded us, that we have the opportunity to greet each other with the word: “Immanuel”…God with us! I have shared that with people and a few have used that greeting instead or along with “Merry Christmas” with interesting responses. This morning I looked a little closer and found that Immanuel means more than “God with us”…it is properly translated – “God is with us!” One word – “is” – can add a little more dimension to the meaning. I was drawn to a song which has the repeated line: God is in us – God is for us – God is with us – Emmanuel — Casting Crowns.

Sometimes I think we need a little one word reminder from God that He is with us in our everyday lives. Two other verses popped into my mind: “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit–fruit that will last…” John 15:16a NIV … note: I chose you – I wanted you – I appointed you – I set my love upon you. Then: “…And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.” …Philippians 4:13b The Passion Translation.  The name “Immanuel” changes everything! “Explosive power” from Immanuel – who chose us, who wanted us, and who appoints us!

Lift your head – brother, sister – God is with you today in the midst of the tasks and schedules and appointments and conversations that will be part of your day. When you meet another member of His family – give them a little encouragement – tell them…”Immanuel!” – Have a great day and be a blessing!
