A Church with a Heart for our Community

December 11th Wednesday

Greetings to you in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a beautiful morning in the Kingdom…so good to have a sunny autumn morning to say “thank-you!” for. It is the 345th day of the year…and what a journey it has been…so there are only 20 days left before we are given another 365 opportunities. What will we do with these last 20 days to make them significant? Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to release a sense of gratitude for all that you have, a sense of accomplishment for all that you have done, and a sense of determination to make these next twenty days memorable.

Today I was introduced to anew…old song. It is a song that is sung during the festival of Hanukkah so it is not surprising that I had not heard of it. It was written by Paul Yarrow of Peter, Paul, and Mary fame. It is the chorus, in particular that caught my attention. The words go like this: Don’t let the light go out! – It’s lasted for so many years! – Don’t let the light go out! – Let it shine through our hopes and tears. What a challenging phrase…”Don’t let the light go out!”

I have been thinking about the number of times over the past two or three weeks there has been a reference to “light” in relation to the Christmas story, right from the prophetic words of the Old Testament to the Christmas movies I have watched to the selection of Christmas music I have been listening to. You know what? there have been many references to “light”. We have been lighting advent candles and announcing that the people walking in darkness have seen a great light. We have decorated our homes inside and out with ‘lights’. At one of our prayer times we found ourselves singing..”This little light of mine!” This ‘light’ affects all ages, all circumstances, and all levels of belief.

And for those who are followers of the Christ…who is called “the Light of the World”…there is a huge responsibility – “Don’t let the light go out!” …”You in your small corner and I in mine” …”We’re going to shine for Jesus until He comes again” … “This little light of ours we are going to let it shine” … for – “Many kinds of darkness in this world are found – Sin and want and sorrow – So we must shine!”God’s Word declares…”walk as children of light” – “proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light” – Ephesians 5:8; 1 Peter 2:9.

Something to think about … be blessed and shine!
