Greetings! may the grace of Jesus Christ be your portion today! I will be praying for you today, asking Father to make himself known to you today in ways that will be personal to you.
This morning I must do a “Song Activity Report” for the last month. Fortunately I can access a program in the computer that will tell me: what songs/choruses we used in our gatherings, how often we used them, who the artist/author is, and what method we used. This helps the copyright service to ensure that people are compensated for the use of their materials. I have done this many times and it has been streamlined into a quick and easy activity. I am always amazed at our “song activity”, as it is a reflection of our worship experience in our gatherings.
This morning I was wondering what it would look like if we had to do a personal “Song Activity Report” on a regular basis to submit to God. After all, we are repeatedly told to ‘sing’ to, and about, God: Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD all the earth. Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Psalm 96:1-2 NIV – “I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live..” Psalm 104:33 NIV – Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:16-17 NIV.
Now, I don’t think, nor am I suggesting that we turn our lives into some sort of “musical play” like the ‘Sound of Music’ or something. Maybe it is not the singing but the song…the lyrics of praise, instruction, testimony, or counsel. Maybe it is having a melody in our hearts or a rhythm in our soul or a symphony in our thoughts…all being expressed through our conversations and interactions with God-other people-ourselves. If you were to give a “Song Activity Report” this morning, what would you include? A line from an old church song has this line: “And Jesus listening can hear the song I cannot sing” . Why not take time today to let the One who started the whole world singing create within your heart-mind-spirit – your personal song to God?
Something to ponder…be blessed!
