A Church with a Heart for our Community

February 17th Thursday

Greetings to you…fellow-travelers on the holy highway…in the name of the One who leads the way, Jesus Christ – THE Risen Savior! What a great morning in the Kingdom – we are alive and get to interact with one another and get to declare…this is the day that the Lord has made for us and we are going to rejoice and be glad in it! I trust that you are being blessed and are experiencing God’s presence surrounding you. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father…”to bless and keep you-to smile upon you and gift you-to look you full in the face-and to make you prosper” – Numbers 6:24-26 MSG.

It seems like a long time since I put together a ‘blog’…and it is! This morning I sense God’s leading to share. I have made it part of my morning routine to spend time in God’s presence before the demands of life attack me. I usually sit in “my corner” with a selection of devotion books and let thoughts, ideas, and insights provoke me. However the one thing that has been a priority to me is to begin my time reading Scripture. At this moment in our home we are reading through the New Testament, and this morning we are reading Luke 23. One of the things I value about reading Scripture is that it is God’s Living Word and every time you read a passage it is a new experience though you may have read that same portion a dozen or more times.

As I approach God’s Word, I can hear the words of a song…”Ancient words ever true-Changing me and changing you-We have come with open hearts-O let the ancient words impart.” I suppose that is my silent…sometimes not so silent…prayer – let these words I read change me, challenge me, strengthen me, nourish me, direct me, comfort me…let them ‘impart to me’ that which I need that I wasn’t aware of even needing. A few more words in the song say: “Show us the ancient paths-Lead us along eternal highways-We want to walk in the ways of Jesus-We want to enter Your rest.”

I am reminded of one of the Bible translators who said that he tried to approach the work of translating as a task to accomplish but was not able to do so. He said that God’s Word would not “sit still” , it came alive in his hands and filled his mind-thoughts with energy and life. I can only say “Amen” to that…God likes to live in His written word. He seems to enjoy surprising me with fresh thoughts that  won’t let me “sit still” in my faith journey. There is always ‘something’  that affirms the truth of 2 Timothy 3:16…read it and see if you agree with me.

Just a few thoughts to ponder … blessings!
