A Church with a Heart for our Community

August 28th Wednesday

Greetings in you in the magnificent, marvellous, matchless name of Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a beautiful summer’s day…do you smell the freshness that is there after the rain? No wonder words were written about that experience. As this is mid-week it is an opportunity to make any “mid-week course corrections” … so that we make our days meaningful. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to reveal himself to you in a way that will enhance your joy and your peace and your hope!

This morning I learned another meaning to a word and gained a humbling insight. First, the insight – my cat was laying on the floor at my feet and being a responsible, engaging pet-person I was talking to her and asking questions…I know, I know – you had to be there. However in typical cat-fashion, she was ignoring me. My darling wife passed by at the moment and cutely posed the question…”are you having a one-sided conversation?” We had a chuckle…but then I thought that sometimes in my conversations, otherwise known as prayers, with God.There are times when it seems like I am having a one-sided conversation with Him, that I am being ignored or that He is not really interested. However, something…or was it a ‘someone’…provoked a thought. I wonder if God sometimes feels like He is having a one-sided conversation with me. I wonder how many times I am pre-occupied or non-responsive or simply ignoring His voice?

Now about that new definition or meaning to a word. The verse I was reading stated – Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for him… Psalm 37:7 KJV.  The word “rest” is one that I am familiar with but it seems that it has a descriptive phrase that can be attached. “Rest” can be to take a leisurely walk. I applied that to the verse….Take a leisurely walk with the Lord and spend some time..waiting for him…with him.  I began to consider this word picture — “God resting as He took a leisurely walk with Adam and Eve in the garden” – “He leads me by still waters…and his created world to walk – and rest” “And He walks with me…leisurely, restfully… and He tells me I am His own” “I know a place of quiet rest…to take a leisurely walk…near to the heart of God” . I have a sense that some of you are crafting your own verses about ‘rest’ and a leisurely walk. Be blessed as you do so.

Perhaps if I would learn how to rest in the Lord in such a manner…if I would take a leisurely walk with Him…He and I would have more than one-sided conversations.
