A Church with a Heart for our Community

2018 March 15th Thursday

Greetings to you in the name that connects us to God …Jesus Christ – THE Risen Saviour! What a lovely late winter morning in the Kingdom – I pray that you are receiving all that God desires to bless you with. Today I will be praying for you, asking Father to grant you “shalom peace” in abundant measure.

I came across another quote or two that make me think. In days gone by I shared a series of Sunday messages / sermons on the idea of dancing with God. My congregation seemed to enjoy them and were challenged by the intimacy that was suggested…imagine if you will – slow dancing with God! I suppose the intent of using a metaphor like that was to create a ‘mystery’ about God and his character. So I was excited when I came across these quotes.

FIrst: a religion without mystery must be a religion without God – Jeremy Taylor  since mystery is a given for a relationship between the Infinite and the finite.

Second: as we follow Jesus into uncertainty, we are free, in the words of Gerald G. May, to “join the dance of life in fullness without having a clue about what the steps are.” Alicia Britt Chole.

Third: the contemplative spiritual life…is a slow and sometimes painful process of becoming as little children again, in which we first must make friends with mystery and finally fall in love again with it. Gerald G. May

Fourth To dance when we do not know the steps requires us to value our Partner above our performance. To dance in the dark demonstrates a lavish display of trust. Lent, in its mystery, is an invitation to dance. Alicia Britt Chole.

Have you ever thought of your Christian walk, with all of its questions, uncertainties, and need for implicit trust in a God you cannot see…as a dance? Let me say, He is the ultimate dance partner and loves to take the lead and He has ‘moves’ that take your breath away – and at times makes you hold your breath. Do you remember the moment He invited you on to the dance floor? The journey of Lent is probably one of the most challenging and mysterious series of dance steps to learn but our Partner is always there.

May you be blessed as you follow His lead!
